The race of students for finding rent has created movement in the housing sector. Rent in Istanbul ranges from 700 to 2,500 liras, while prices in private dwellings start from 500 liras.

Besiktas, Şişli, Kadıköy, Avcılar and Bakırköy are among the places that students usually prefer. Rent in these districts prices vary from 700 to 2 thousand 500 liras. There are a total of 58 foundations and public universities in Istanbul, including two-year vocational colleges. During the 2016-2017 academic year, a total of 670 thousand students were studying at these universities. This figure is expected to exceed 700 thousand this year. Experts say that for the first time this year, university students will rent a house for an average of 100, and the number of apartments to be rented will reach 35-40.

PRICES DROPPED BY 50 PERCENT

Nizamettin Aşa, chairman of the Chamber of Real Estate, said that he had experienced a 20-25 percent decline in rental housing in Istanbul in the last year. "This is why I think that students will have difficulty finding rented apartments in the place they want and at the price they want this year". Having said that the biggest drop was in the Fatih district, Aşa said that after the Ministry of Customs and Trade took over the day's rentals, there was a serious sense of housing stock in the region and said, "The rents in Fatih have dropped by 50 percent.
