Great Restoration of the Church in Laodicea
Denizli has many historical and natural beauties. The city continues to be awarded with its successful projects and works. Restoration of the Church in Laodicea won EU Prize for Cultural Heritage. Denizli Mayor Osman Zolan has given some information about the award and the restoration.
He has said that ‘Laodicea I progressing confidently towards being the Turkey’s brand value day by day’. The restoration is currently being conducted in the ancient city of Laodicea was awarded the European Union Cultural Heritage Jury’s special award.
Restoration of the Church in Laodicea won EU Prize for Cultural Heritage. Before that price, the ancient City was included on the UNESCO’s List of Intangible Cultural Heritage. It is a really precious place and the restoration works in there are so special that it was awarded the UE Prize for Cultural Heritage.
Preservation, conservation and restoration techniques which are used throughout the restoration were appreciated by the jury and it was awarded. The project includes the restoration of bishop’s house, church archives and road leading to the church. Walls and antique structures have been preserved.
Restoration of the Church in Laodicea won EU Prize for Cultural Heritage. Furthermore, the Church was granted Trip Advisor Certificate of Excellence last year. So, the success of the project cannot be denied. Restoration works are maintained by the name ‘World Heritage Laodicea Awakens’. The excavations and management responsibility of the restoration belong to Denizli Metropolitan Municipality.
This responsibility was given them by the Culture and Tourism Ministry with a protocol. The major emphasized that the prize is the proof that the success of local authorities. Local authorities enable historical value to be uncovered fast and safely. Winning the jury’s special prize by Europa Nostra is a great success. The prize will be granted in a ceremony in Madrid in May.
