The First Dig In Kanal Istanbul Will Be Shot This Year
The crazy project that President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced to the public for the first time in 2011 was clarified.
Transport, Maritime and Communications Minister Ahmet Arslan explained that the most suitable route for Kanal Istanbul was determined as Kucukcekmece-Sazlıdere-Durusu corridor from 5 routes that have been worked on to date. Describing that the route that will provide connection from the Black Sea to Marmara Sea is about 45 km, Arslan stated that this year's tender was completed and the first dig was shot.
"Urban transformation projects to be implemented in the region by citizens living in the region will end the distorted structure by establishing living spaces and increase the position and attractiveness of our country originating from the waterway in Istanbul" ,said Arslan.
Arslan pointed out that modeling studies were carried out using 25 years wind data in the project area and continued "Wind and deep sea waves at the entrance of the Black Sea and the Marmara Sea related to the project area were examined and the effect on the channel side surfaces of the waves from the ship passages was evaluated according to the most negative scenarios, detailed studies are continuing".
Arslan stated that they supported to work with internationally recognized faculty members and international experts who are actively involved in the project activities such as leading ITU, Boğaziçi, ODTÜ and Gazi universities.
Arslan said that 35 institutions and establishments have been working on 5 routes for the project and they have prepared the data. Within the framework of the studies, Küçükçekmece-Sazlıdere-Durusu corridor with the 4th route was specified as the appropriate route for Kanal Istanbul.
